I discovered this unique origami envelope (tato in Japanese) a little while ago on Pinterest. It is called Star Tato and it is designed by the Dutch origami artist José Meeusen. By communicating with her, I found out that she designed this beautiful piece already a few years back (1988). You can find more of José’s work (and sometimes diagrams) on her Facebook & Instagram (@xephirart) pages. By the way, if you got hooked and want to see some other interesting origami tato’s, then check out another one of my favorite by Hiroko Yamada.

Tip: Papers I usually buy on Ebay or Origami Shop. Japanese books I tend to buy from CDJapan.

Origami Star Tato

Design: José Meeusen

By playing around a bit with José’s original design, I discovered a simple but nice looking variation, which you can see in the pictures in red / white & white / beige. I might not have folded it in large size, but big enough for a tiny love letter… 😉
